Heidelberg, July 2014

Our next trip was to Heidelberg. This was the city Emily chose to visit for the castle. Sadly we were too late to see the inside of the castle, so we will just have to go back again. :-)  The castle is up on a hill that you can see from the town. Here is a picture of the castle view from the town.

We rode a train up the mountain. This is the boys waiting while Dennis got tickets.

Another view of the castle.

Ben at lunch:

Emily got this amazing dish that included spinach in a hollandaise sauce. I am not a huge fan of spinach normally, but this was fantastic! She liked it too. :-)

The streets of Heidelberg

Getting on the train

One of the stops along the mountain.

It was a really steep train ride. The trains were on a pulley system.

View from the top!

Now, the castle:

The view of Heidelberg from the castle.

I actually drank a Coke! It has been more than 25 years since I, Sarah, have ever drank a Coke. It was actually really good. Apparently the Coke here isn't as sugary as America's Coke.

 The castle courtyard:

Tried to get one of those kids jumping off shots, didn't work so well. The lady was trying to help Ben and he ended up totally freaking out on here. It was funny.

Isn't that just beautiful?!

So, during an attack half of the tower just fell off and they have left it like that.

Dinner!

It was a great day and we had a lovely time. Will definitely go back and see the inside of the castle next time. :-)
