The second week was a great week for the most part. The kids were still excited for school so we were able to get lots accomplished. We had a little surprise addition to our week though. I bought a potty seat for Jacob intending to just have it on hand for when we started training him sometime in the future. I was actually hoping to start in our week off at the end of the month. Well, Jacob was excited for the Thomas the train seat and wanted to go potty and we haven't looked back. He's been doing amazingly well. He has only one accident if that each day. It's amazing and definitely unexpected. Another new happening this week is Ben is walking! He is walking everywhere and just does laps most of the day. Since he's started walking he and Jacob have become best friends and play most of the day away together. It's so cute to watch as Ben paces around the front entry while Jacob uses the bathroom (which is in the front entryway area). I picked up an activity box that had wooden blocks and other fun toys for learning they both could play with quietly during school.
Emily has been learning about having a healthy body and what it takes to have a healthy body. One topic of discussion has been exercise. She is trying to jump rope. We've got a ways to go but she loves trying.
Denny learned about the Celts this week and made a Celtic broach and cloak as his history project for the week. He really enjoyed coloring and cutting, but especially glueing the safety pin on with mom's hot glue gun.
Always the poser, here Emily is showing her lacing skills. She spent quite a bit of time working a shoelace in and out of the lace-up card and was super proud of the result. She even got Denny interested and he did one as well.
This is what our school day looks like (well, usually much messier, but you get the idea). Working around the dining table has been so much better than individual desks. We have been really enjoying learning in this new environment.
So, in the spirit of exercise, we went out to the basketball courts in our neighborhood and the kids ran laps and raced eachother. Then Emily showed off her jumping jacks while Denny did push ups. These were their ideas, by the way.
Jacob joined in the fun and did his own version of a push up. He was a hoot!
Overall, we're having a blast learning together and spending time as a family. We are so blessed to have this time together. Loving my life!
